Thanks GT! I especially like it when you help me. Alors, merci beaucoup! :)

Welcome!

Hi, AdbMonkey! I saw the pleasant note you left on GTBacchus' talk page, and felt like saying "Welcome!" And now I have. ;-) If you have questions, I always found the the helpdesk folks to be a great resouce when I was just starting out. They're all volunteers, too, of course, so they'll appreciate it if you try to find an answer on your own for at least a few minutes, but if you get stuck or can't find an answer, that's the place to go. Glad you showed up, and hope you enjoy participating. Best,  – OhioStandard (talk) 01:51, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks OhioStandard! I was going to leave a comment on your page, but then I saw you wanted users to respond on their page. Either way, thanks for your kindness. :) AdbMonkey (talk) 02:32, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I'm always very pleased to welcome someone with good manners to the project. And you get major points for noticing that message about keeping conversations on the page where they begin. 95% of new users blow right past that, don't notice it at all. Best,  – OhioStandard (talk) 13:10, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'm probably over-commenting, but I have to tell you that I just saw the user page you created (I still had you on my "watch list" from our previous interchange here, just forgot to remove that) and I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. Thanks! Also, and maybe more constructively, I just answered the same question you asked GTBacchus for another user, in my usual long-winded way, earlier today. You might like to have a look if you'd like to fancy-up your user page, at all, just for fun. The comment I made can be found here, if you're at all interested. Cheers,  – OhioStandard (talk) 06:31, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks OhioStandard. So basically, I took a look at that link. I don't think I have too much personal information on here, to where it would look like I was socializing, though, would it? But I know they don't really mean that you can't socialize, obviously you're going to be social if you're interacting with others. They just mean keep it at a level where it contributes information to wikipedia, right? It seems almost contradictory for them to say no overt social pages, and then have some really silly stuff that seems to contribute exactly to fostering socialization.

Anyhoo, if I break the rules by coming across too much like a strung out, hyperactive kid after they've gotten into the pixi-stixs, let me know.

You're doing just fine. And you're right that it's kind of contradictory. I know the rules sound kind of intimidating, but you should see some of the things people put on their main user page. Yours is not a problem at all. Best,  – OhioStandard (talk) 09:32, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Response to your response to my response to your question at the Reference Desk

[edit]

Hi AdbMonkey. How're you doing today?

So yesterday you said this at the Science Ref Desk:

"Dear Wikidao. Is that all it is? I thought nihilism was when an anarchist destroyed everything. I just thought maybe there was German term for this or something. I like you, wikidao. You're very dao about things, and that is so nice. Even your name is cute, because it has wiki and dao put together in it. Ok, well I know this isn't supposed to be socially jabbered up with public declarations or odes to other users, but I just couldn't help telling you how I like the cutseyness of your name. (If you meant it to come across like a strong, karate kicking ninja, I apologize.) So yeah, thanks for that NPR link AdbMonkey (talk) 04:34, 8 November 2010 (UTC)"

And I wanted to respond to that here, because we try to keep the Ref Desk as question-answering-oriented as possible.

But, dude. I totally meant the bad-ass ninja thing. No, seriously. It's like Dao, right, like the sword, not Tao like the metaphysical concept. Which, yeah, that would be "cutesy", I could see what you mean there, but that's not what I'm trying to say at all. I mean, I also have that "☯" symbol in my signature, but that's just because I like that symbol in a "bad-ass ninja" sort of way, you know. I guess you could think that's "cute", though, that's fine. Thank you for your comments. I like you, too. And I use the word 'dude' gender-neutrally, so even if you're a chick like your user page might sort of hint at, that's okay. Have a nice day! :) WikiDao(talk) 19:46, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ohhhh... whoops. I was thinking you were more like a sweet, zen Taoist Yoda, but instead you give me the image of being more like a surfing parkour ninja dude, dude. My bad! Regardless, I still like how you fairly answer questions. And thanks for being so nice. :) <(I hope we can happy face on this site.) AdbMonkey (talk) 04:52, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Psych. Nah, I'm really into the whole ☯ thing, sure. I probably meant both meanings when the name occurred to me, I guess. Which was when I'd decided to change it from "Wikiscient" a couple of months back, when I started to hang out here more regularly.
So. "AdbMonkey"? Where's that coming from? The "db"? Almost "AddMonkey" isn't it, and then you asked a question about ADHD at the ref desk? Anything to that...?
Cheers! WikiDao(talk) 05:36, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I asked about the ADD, because basically, sometimes I think I am crazy. Actually, I just have a hard time paying attention and being motivated in general. I just don't think the solution is medicine, especially when the long term side effects aren't known. But that is my personal opinion. I was also wondering because I read of a study that showed the brains of ADHD diagnosed boys was different from a group of non-diagnosed ADHD boys. So, I was wondering if the chicken made the egg, or if, IF, it is really necessary for medication. If it would actually change the physiological structure of my brain, then I would take the medication. But since I don't know if it does that, I think perhaps finding effective holistic treatments are better. Then again, this is the problem with not going to medical school, or actually doing the research on one of these studies. I don't know for myself. :p But yeah, I am sure there are some cases where ADD meds are necessary and some where they are not so much. It's really a shame that nuerologists and people liek that don't have endless amounts of time to peruse the Wikipedia, though I guess they can offer their advice anonymously. Actually, they have their own forums, right? And the wiki is pretty non discriminating. Well, I'm rambling! Take care Wikidao! AdbMonkey (talk) 23:09, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
